The alarm goes off. Finally, today’s the day you’ll hike through the renowned Restonica valley and discover the magnificent Lac de Melo, nestling at an altitude of 1,711 metres.
You have everything ready: ruck sack, picnic, flasks, sunglasses, hat and hiking shoes!

You arrive at the start point. the Bergerie de Grotelle (a navigational waypoint) at 1,370 metres in altitude. Follow the yellow signs, the hike starts gently going as far as the Bergerie de Melo (a further navigational waypoint).
Once there, you have two options. Head right on a shorter more difficult trail with steep steps and a few breathtakingly high routes… Alternatively, go left on a trail which is a tiny bit longer but easier…

You are here! The Lac de Melo appears right in front of you. Rare for a high-altitude Corsican lake, it is surrounded by greenery, mainly mountain ash and alder trees. The views over the Restonica valley are truly impressive.
The more experienced continue their route heading for Lac de Capitello which reaches 1.930 metres. Others enjoy the chance to take off their boots, and sit down to contemplate the landscape.

Time to get your strength back; get out your sandwiches, dried fruits, crisps and sweet treats…After all that effort, comes your well-earned comfort.

Your shoes back on, rested and fully satisfied, you fill your flasks from the springs by the lake or the mountain rangers’ base and take the route back towards the bergerie.

You select some charcuterie (cooked pork meats) and cheeses on the stalls at the bergerie. They will be very welcome for your pre-dinner drinks this evening… You drive slowly along the winding road through mountains and pine forests, heading for Bagheera campsite.

A long, cold, shower has done you the world of good. This evening, you have drinks and appetisers and go to bed in good time. You’ve walked far enough for one day!
